WHAT ARE THE RULES OF PADEL?
Padel is a sport for everyone and has rules that may seem obvious but they are not.
Let's see what they are:
In Padel you can play both singles and doubles and couples can be mixed or same-sex. According to FIPT , the Padel court must be rectangular in shape, surrounded by walls that make up the playing area and must measure 10 meters in width and 20 meters in length, with a tolerance of 0.5%. In general, therefore, the dimensions are around 23 m x 13 m.
The ball is similar to the one used in tennis with the difference of being slightly softer, it must guarantee a bounce that goes from a minimum of 135 centimeters to a maximum of 145 centimeters, if it is dropped on a hard surface from a height of about 2.54 meters. Its internal pressure must be between 4.6 and 5.3 kilos for every 2.54 square centimeters, therefore about 2/2.5 atmospheres. The racket , on the other hand, is characterized by holes, which improve aerodynamics during movement and improve handling and must have a string or cable that connects it to the player's wrist. It can be of different shapes: round, teardrop or diamond.
But let's get to the technical rules:
the service is performed from below. You must keep the racket below the belt, performing a diagonal shot in the service rectangle of the opponent's court as in tennis, it must be done with one hand and the ball must be bounced only once before being hit. If on the service you hit the grate placed before the glass, of the opponent's court, you commit the first fault, and on the second you concede the point to the opponent.
The score in Padel is the same as tennis: 15, 30, 40 and game. However, if the score is 40-40, the advantage is played, that is, whoever scores 2 points in a row wins the game.
To make a point it is necessary that:
- the opponent hits the ball directly onto the glass without it hitting the ground;
- the opponent hits the metal nets on his court;
- the opponent hits the ball in flight before it goes over the net;
- the opponent hits the ball more than once in the same return or serve;
- the ball bounces twice in the opponent's court;
- the ball is hit with a part of the body and falls onto the court;
- after a shot, the ball goes over the glass and falls off the playing court;
- the opponent shoots directly at the net;
